EAA Young Eagles Flights
Young Eagles flights are part of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Program created to interest young people in aviation. The program has flown more than 2 million young people who reside in more than 90 countries. Weather permitting, free airplane rides will be given to youths between the ages of 8 and 17 at the Virginia Festival of Flight and Fly-In from noon til 5 PM.
Each child must have his or her parent or guardian sign a release form in order to obtain a flight. Each young person will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle. Their name will then be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, WI. The Logbook is also accessible on the program’s website at www.youngeagles.org.
Each pilot volunteers their time and the use of their aircraft so that flights can be provided free of charge. All Young Eagles pilots must have a current EAA membership and be able to show their card. Pilots and ground crew interested in signing up, please contact the Young Eagles Coordinator in the Terminal Building of the Suffolk Executive Airport on the day of the event.
Additional information about the EAA is available at www.eaa.org
More information about the Young Eagles Flights at the Virginia Festival of Flight and Fly-In can be obtained in the Youth Area. Youths participating in the Young Eagles will sign up (in advance) and then gather in front of the terminal building.
